Jesuit Retreat House, Parma, OH
The Buddha’s teachings tell us that all conflict begins within. Whether it is conflict with another person, or with how life is manifesting at any given moment, how we relate to what is arising will dictate whether we suffer or not.
In this retreat we will explore the early Buddhist view of how conflict arises in one’s own heart and mind, and how it can be avoided and/or put down. We will also explore some practical and helpful communication tools we can bring to bear when we inevitably find ourselves in conflict with another.
Chas has been practicing mindfulness and Buddhist meditation, primarily in the Theravada school, for over 30 years, including over 2 years of combined time in silent, intensive retreat. He has trained with Burmese meditation masters, western monastics of the Thai Forest tradition and senior western Vipassana teachers. In 2003 Chas was invited to be the Resident Teacher at the Insight Meditation Society in Barre, MA where he continues to serve in that role. He is interested in how the basic material of our everyday lives, including relationships, can be used as a vehicle for awakening. Chas teaches retreats at IMS, at centers and Sanghas throughout the country, and offers Spiritual Counseling for individuals.
