Insight Meditation teaches us a radical new way of knowing ourselves and the world we live in. This retreat is an invitation to cultivate intuitive wisdom, a faculty of inner guidance that plays a central role in the process of spiritual awakening. A major focus of our time together will be the practice of sitting and walking meditation in Noble Silence. In a safe, supportive learning environment, there will also be meditation instruction, dharma talks, and experiential exercises designed to deepen our understanding of the innate capacity we all have to directly experience what the Buddha called “the sweet joy of the way.”

If you have questions about the retreat experience, see our Retreat FAQ. Still have questions? Contact the retreat manager.

David Chernikoff began the study and practice of meditation in 1971 and started teaching insight meditation in 1988. He trained as a yoga teacher at the Integral Yoga Institute and completed the inaugural Community Dharma Leader program at Spirit Rock Meditation Center. His teaching has been influenced by senior teachers from the Insight Meditation Society and Spirit Rock, Zen teacher Yvonne Rand, and Tibetan teachers with whom he studied during a 3-year stay in Nepal. Because of his passion for inter-spiritual studies, David also trained extensively with spiritual guides from other contemplative traditions, most notably Ram Dass, Father Thomas Keating, and Rabbi Zalman Schachter-Shalomi. David taught psychology and meditation for many years at Naropa University and currently serves as the guiding teacher of the Insight Meditation Community of Colorado. He is the author of Life, Part Two: Seven Keys to Awakening with Purpose and Joy as You Age (Shambhala Publications). For more information, please see www.davidchernikoff.com.

In keeping with ancient tradition, the teachings of the Buddha are offered freely—the teachers receive no compensation from IM Cleveland for teaching, but rely on dana (generosity) of their students. At retreat’s end, students have an opportunity to practice dana by offering contributions to the teacher.
